  • Write a critical appreciation of the poem, 'Another's Sorrow?" 

Another's Sorrow is one the remarkable poem of William Blake. The poem is about sympathy & humanity. In this poem the poet is talking about another person's pain or grief in general. The poet asks the question, 'Can I see another's woe, And not be in sorrow too?." Here the poet means to say that, if I see someone's grief, how can I not want to do something to seek for kind relief. Then the poet repeat the question, before applying it to a father, and he asks the question, "Can a father see his child weep, nor be with sorrow fill'd?" Here, the poet feel sorrow when his child cries. A father could filled with sadness when he sees a falling tear, of his child. 

The poet asks the question, "Can a mother sit and hear an infant groan, an infant fear?" and he himself gives the answer, "No, No, Never can it be!" Here the poet express a mother's helplessness and grief when the mother hears her infant cry she cannot sit by and listen to it. Here, the poet wants to suggests us that, as the suffering of the child become the cause of the restlessness of the parents, the same way the poet too, becomes restless by seeing the sufferings of his fellow men. 

The poet express God's relationship with the mankind. Here, the poet used the pronoun "He" to refers to the God. The God gives the mankind every sort of pleasure. He tries to save the human from any trouble in his life. He can't see the sorrows of a little wren. He can't hear the infant's cry. God gives all his Joy to us and when he give it he becomes small child. He take all our sorrows being a young and gives us pleasure being a small. Here the poet suggests that we should not feel our God is not with us, we should not think that God is not near us and can't weep a tear. The poet assured us that he gives us his Joy and He is with us whenever our griefs completely destroy. He sit by us and moan on our suffering. He always stays with us and tries to save us from our sufferings.
