He died at the age of 83 in July27,2015 while addressing students in Shillong, Meghalaya. Dr. Kalam began his career as a scientist in the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Later, he entered the Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) as Project Director of the Satellite LaunchVehicle-SLV-ll1, designed and produced in India for the first time, Dr. Kalam, then, rejoined DRDO in 1982.
